  5. Welcome to FrontPage 1.0 for Macintosh, Beta 2 release!  This document contains important information about this FrontPage release.

  7. System Requirements:
  8.  
  9.     Ñ    PowerMac¬ computer.
  10.     Ñ    System 7.5.3 operating system or later.*
  11.     Ñ    16 MB of memory with virtual memory turned on to run (24 MB recommended).
  12.     Ñ    Hard-disk space required: 30MB.
  13.     Ñ    One CD-ROM disk drive.
  14.     Ñ    Any Macintosh-compatible black and white monitor (color recommended).

  16. *You can upgrade your Power Macintosh to the latest release of MacOS over the Internet by visiting Apple Computer's web site at http://www.info.apple.com.  Please contact Apple Computer with any questions about this upgrade.

  18. A Special Note About Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0b1

If you received Microsoft FrontPage 1.0 for Macintosh on CD-ROM, the installer for Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0b1 is included on the CD. By the time you receive this CD, however, the final version of Internet Explorer 3.0 for Macintosh should be available. Please visit the Internet Explorer home page at http://www.microsoft.com/ie and download the final version.

  24. As with any beta product, before using Microsoft FrontPage 1.0 for Macintosh, Beta 2 with existing data you should make a backup copy of your content directory.

  26. Many of the issues described in these release notes reflect current areas of incomplete functionality with the Beta2 version and will be resolved before FrontPage 1.0 for Macintosh is released.

  28. FrontPage 1.0 for Macintosh is an evaluation copy which will expire on 4/30/97 after which it will not launch.

  30. Upgrading From Previous Beta Versions:

  32. If you have installed a previous beta version of Microsoft FrontPage for Macintosh, it is important that you remove the earlier version before installing Beta 2. To do this:
  33.       Ñ  Launch the Microsoft FrontPage Installer
  34.       Ñ  Choose "Remove" from the "Easy Install" menu on the main screen of the installer.
  35.       Ñ  The "Install" button changes to "Remove". Click the "Remove" button.

  37. Once you've done this, you can proceed with installing the current version.

The Beta 1 version of FrontPage for Macintosh created a default Web content folder inside the "Microsoft FrontPage" folder called "FrontPage Webs". Beta 2 creates this folder at the top level of your hard disk. If you are upgrading from Beta 1, you should simply move the existing "FrontPage Webs" folder to the top level of your hard disk. This will enable the Beta 2 version to automatically locate your existing web content.

  43. 1. Potential Problems Saving Large Images to Server Based Webs
  44.  
  45. There is a known problem saving images larger than 100K in size to server based webs. This problem is intermittent and usually occurs when saving an image to a web for a second time. When you try to save such an image, the FrontPage Editor may appear to hang. Eventually a "Server Busy" error will appear. If you encounter this problem, switch to the editor using the application menu. Click the "Stop" button (the one with a stop sign on it) and Quit both Editor and Explorer. This problem does not affect disk based webs.

  47. 2. Spell Checking Disabled

  49. Spell Checking in the Editor and Explorer have been intentionally disabled in this release. They will be reenabled in the final version.

  51. 3. Dialog button and labels truncated.
  52.  
  53. On some dialogs throughout the product, buttons and labels are slightly truncated.  We apologize for any difficulty this causes users to understand the purpose of the controls.

  55. 4. Most recently used file list not working correctly.
  56.  
  57. The most recently used file list in the FrontPage Editor is not working correctly. Recently used files are added to the list and will be opened correctly, but their names are not displayed on the menu.

  59. 5. Inserting Macintosh sound files is not supported.
  60.  
  61. Beta 2 does not support the insertion of Macintosh sound files as background sounds. The FrontPage Editor will allow these files to be inserted, but the files are not saved properly to the web and will not play when viewed in a web browser.

  63. 6. Inserting QuickTime movies is not supported.
  64.  
  65. Beta 2 does not support the insertion of QuickTime movies. These files can be inserted on the page, but cannot be viewed in a browser currently.

  67. 7. Changing the alignment of an image to "bottom" can cause a crash.
  68.  
  69. If you insert an image on a page and change the image's alignment to something other than the default, changing the alignment back to "bottom" will result in a system crash. We recommend that you reinsert the image and delete the aligned copy if you need to change the alignment.
